Product Description
If you've ever pulled a 9V battery off the shelf only to find it dead — or swapped out a smoke detector battery sooner than expected — the Ultralife 9V Lithium is the upgrade you've been looking for. It lasts up to 5 times longer than a standard alkaline 9V battery, and up to 10 times longer than carbon-zinc batteries, making it one of the longest-lasting 9V batteries available today.
Power That Goes the Distance
The Ultralife 9V Lithium delivers a steady, consistent voltage from the moment it's installed until it's nearly depleted. Unlike alkaline batteries, which start strong and gradually lose power over time, this battery holds a remarkably flat discharge curve — meaning your device gets reliable, full-strength power throughout the battery's entire life. Whether you're powering a smoke alarm, a medical device, or professional audio equipment, consistent voltage matters.
A 10-Year Shelf Life — Ready When You Need It Most
One of the biggest advantages of the Ultralife 9V Lithium is its exceptional shelf life. When stored in its sealed foil pouch, this battery retains its charge for up to 10 years. That makes it ideal for emergency preparedness kits, backup power devices, and any application where a battery might sit unused for an extended period. You can stock up with confidence knowing these batteries will still be ready to go years from now.
This 10-year operational life also makes the Ultralife 9V the battery of choice for premium 10-year ionization-type smoke alarms — the kind designed to run on a single battery for the life of the alarm.
Performs in Extreme Temperatures
Alkaline batteries are notoriously poor performers in the cold. The Ultralife 9V Lithium is engineered for a wide operating temperature range of -4°F to 140°F, making it a reliable choice for devices exposed to outdoor conditions, unheated spaces, or high-heat environments. When not in use, it can be stored safely in temperatures as low as -40°F — well beyond what alkaline batteries can handle.
A Direct Drop-In Replacement for Standard 9V Batteries
Despite all its performance advantages, the Ultralife 9V Lithium is the exact same size as a standard alkaline 9V battery — it meets ANSI Alkaline 1604 size specifications. That means there's nothing special required to make the switch. Just pop it in like any other 9V and immediately enjoy better performance and a longer life. At 1.92" long, 0.67" wide, and 1.02" tall, it fits any standard 9V battery compartment with no modifications needed.
It's also about 18% lighter than a comparable alkaline battery, which is a welcome benefit in handheld devices, wearables, and portable equipment where weight matters.
Built-In Safety Features You Can Trust
The Ultralife 9V Lithium includes a resettable PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) fuse that protects against overcurrent and short-circuit conditions. It's free of mercury, lead, and cadmium, and carries multiple safety certifications including UL 2054, UL 217, UN 38.3, and IEC 60086-4:2014. These certifications reflect rigorous third-party testing for safety and reliability.
Where to Use the Ultralife 9V Lithium Battery
This battery is a smart choice for any device that currently runs on a standard 9V battery, especially in applications where long life, reliability, or safety is critical:
- Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
- Home security systems and sensors
- Medical devices and wearable health monitors
- Professional audio equipment and microphones
- Test and measurement instruments
- Emergency locator beacons
- Remote monitoring systems
- Handheld security scanners
- Metering systems and data recorders
Please Note: The Ultralife 9V Lithium is a non-rechargeable primary battery. It is not compatible with any battery charger and should never be placed in a charger. If you're looking for a rechargeable 9V option, we carry 9V Lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries separately.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Ultralife 9V Lithium battery rechargeable?
No — this is a single-use, non-rechargeable battery. It should never be placed in a battery charger, as doing so could damage the battery, the charger, or both, and will void the warranty. If you need a rechargeable 9V option, we carry 9V Lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries separately.
Will this battery fit my device? Is it the same size as a regular 9V?
Yes. The Ultralife 9V Lithium meets ANSI Alkaline 1604 size specifications, which means it's the exact same physical size as a standard alkaline 9V battery — 1.92" long, 0.67" wide, and 1.02" tall. It's a direct drop-in replacement and will fit any device that accepts a standard 9V battery.
How long will this battery last in a smoke detector?
In most ionization-type smoke detectors, the Ultralife 9V Lithium is rated for up to 10 years of operational life. This is why major smoke alarm manufacturers choose it for their premium 10-year alarm models. It's one of the most cost-effective ways to ensure your smoke detector stays powered for the long haul.
How does this battery perform in cold weather?
Much better than alkaline. The Ultralife 9V Lithium operates in temperatures from -4°F all the way up to 140°F. Alkaline batteries lose significant capacity in cold conditions, while lithium chemistry maintains strong performance across a much broader temperature range. This makes the Ultralife 9V a great choice for outdoor sensors, unheated buildings, or vehicles.
Why choose lithium over alkaline for my 9V devices?
Lithium 9V batteries offer several meaningful advantages over alkaline: they last up to 5 times longer, hold their charge on the shelf for up to 10 years, maintain more consistent voltage throughout their life, and perform much better in both cold and hot conditions. They're also lighter. The higher upfront cost is typically offset by how much less frequently you need to replace them.
Does this battery have a National Stock Number (NSN)?
Yes. The Ultralife 9V Lithium battery is assigned NSN 6135-01-369-9792, making it available for procurement through the federal supply system. It is also UN 38.3 certified for safe transport, meeting the requirements commonly needed for government and military applications.

Customer Reviews
These batteries were ordered to replace the ones in my smoke detectors. They are much longer lasting than standard alkaline batteries and are the proper choice for this application.
I purchased more of these to use in all my smoke detectors - and yes, they fit but I recommend checking for size as they are a bit larger. The last ones lasted 9 years. While these might seem pricey, compared with replacing regular life batteries on an annual basis, or even every 2 years, these are a great buy. Plus I don't have to climb up and down ladders to refill the smoke detectors!
I used in my bass Upright NS Design/ Thanks
The lithium battery last much longer than the regular alkaline battery. When you have it in a location such as a smoke detector, you want long life & reliability.
Do well with long life or high current use.
Good product and price.
these batteries are used in an automated production plant and have never failed.
